Meet the Grantees

In 2010, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) seeded the Promise Neighborhoods program with 1-year planning grants awarded to 21 grantees (i.e., nonprofit organizations, institutions of higher education, Indian Tribes). Starting in 2011, ED awarded additional planning grants and the first round of 5-year implementation grants, creating the first cohort displayed on this page—fiscal year (FY) 2011. To date, communities have established a total of 46 Promise Neighborhoods with these implementation grants plus matching funds, and additional communities continued to grow after receiving ED planning grants. Service integration for children and families in and out of schools has been further strengthened in 15 locations that have received both Promise Neighborhoods and Full-Service Community Schools grants. ED-funded Promise Neighborhoods, now in states and Tribal lands across the United States, sustain their efforts with strong partnerships, resident leadership, and funding from public and private sources.
